Manatee County Criminal Records Search: Cases & Public Records

Manatee County, Florida official-records guide

Manatee County criminal records are split between several government offices. The Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller maintains criminal court files, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office maintains arrest, jail, incident and countywide background-check records, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement provides statewide Florida criminal-history searches, and the Florida Department of Corrections maintains state correctional records. This guide shows which official source to use and how to move from arrest information to the final court outcome.

County: Manatee County, Florida Judicial circuit: Twelfth Judicial Circuit Information checked: September 25, 2026
Fast answer: use the Manatee County Public Records Hub for criminal court cases, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Inquiry for booking/custody information, and FDLE when you need a Florida-wide criminal-history search.

Which Manatee County criminal record do you actually need?

One search will not answer every criminal-record question. Court records, booking data, local background checks and statewide Florida criminal history are separate products maintained by different agencies.

Clerk of Court

Criminal case

Search for charges filed in court, docket activity, hearings, judgments, dispositions and eligible public case documents.

Sheriff

Arrest / jail record

Use for recent bookings, custody status and arrest information maintained by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Records Section

Countywide background

Manatee County’s Clerk specifically directs countywide background-check requests to the Sheriff’s Office.

FDLE

Florida criminal history

Use when you need statewide Florida criminal-history information rather than only Manatee County data.

Florida DOC

State prison record

Search state correctional records for people under Florida Department of Corrections jurisdiction.

PACER

Federal criminal case

Federal prosecutions are separate from Manatee County and Florida state court records.

Arrest is not conviction. A booking record tells you that an arrest/custody event occurred. The Clerk’s criminal court file is the better source for determining whether prosecutors filed charges and how each charge was ultimately resolved.

Manatee County felony and misdemeanor criminal records

Manatee County is part of Florida’s Twelfth Judicial Circuit. The Clerk’s Criminal Division manages court files for arrestable offenses occurring in Manatee County.

Circuit Criminal

Felony cases

Felony cases are handled within Florida’s circuit-court jurisdiction. Manatee County’s Clerk describes examples such as burglary, grand theft, drug offenses, sexual battery and murder.

County Criminal

Misdemeanor / lower-level cases

Less-serious arrestable offenses and qualifying criminal traffic matters can fall within county-court jurisdiction.

The Clerk’s Criminal Division maintains pleadings, court proceedings, exhibits, judgments and other case documentation for Manatee County criminal matters.

How to read a Manatee County criminal court result

Field What it means What to verify
Case number The Clerk’s identifier for the case. Use it for copy requests and future searches.
Charge The offense allegation filed in court. A filed charge is not proof of conviction.
Docket event A filing, hearing, order or other court action. Read events in date order to understand case progress.
Disposition How a charge or case ended. Conviction, dismissal, acquittal, withheld adjudication or another result.
Sentence Court-imposed consequence after qualifying disposition. Confinement, probation, fine, restitution or other terms.
Document image Electronic copy of a filing or court-generated document. Availability depends on confidentiality and access rules.
Best practice: if you start with an arrest record, use the name or case number to find the related Clerk case and confirm the final disposition before relying on the arrest information.

What Manatee County’s document-access icons mean

The Clerk uses different access levels for electronic documents. This is important because a missing image does not always mean the underlying record does not exist.

Viewable

Public document

Open for ordinary public online viewing.

View on Request

Manual review required

A lock icon can indicate that the document requires manual review for sensitive/confidential information before release.

Confidential

Not public

A confidential document or case cannot be released to ordinary public users.

For View on Request documents, the Clerk says users can click the lock icon, enter an email address and typically receive the reviewed document within about 24 hours when it is releasable.

Manatee County countywide criminal background checks

The Manatee County Clerk specifically states that it cannot perform a statewide criminal background check. For a countywide Manatee County background check, the Clerk directs requesters to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Records Section.

Local background check

600 301 Boulevard West, Suite 202
Bradenton, FL 34205

Main phone: 941-747-3011

Countywide background checks can be requested in person or by mail. A local county check should not be confused with the broader FDLE statewide criminal-history search.

Choose based on scope:
Manatee County only → Sheriff’s countywide background check.
Florida statewide → FDLE criminal-history search.

Request Manatee County Sheriff’s Office incident reports and other records

The Sheriff’s Office Records Section handles public-record requests for agency records such as incident reports, background checks and body-camera footage.

When making a request, provide:

  • incident or case number if known
  • full name
  • date of incident
  • approximate time
  • incident location
  • specific record requested
  • preferred electronic or paper format
  • contact details for the response

Manatee County’s official public-records guidance makes clear that Sheriff’s Office records should be requested directly from the Sheriff’s Office rather than through the county government’s general records office.

Keep the request narrow. Asking for one specific incident report is usually easier to process than asking for every record mentioning a person’s name across many years.

Florida statewide criminal-history search through FDLE

If the search needs to go beyond Manatee County, use the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). FDLE is Florida’s central criminal-history repository.

The current statutory fee for an ordinary public Florida criminal-history request is $24 per subject.

Open official FDLE Florida Checks

Instant Search $24 + $1 processing fee Fast public name-based Florida criminal-history result.
Certified / Non-Certified Search $24 Staff-processed criminal-history search, including certified options.

Why both systems matter: FDLE gives you statewide history; the Manatee County court record gives you deeper local case detail.

Review your own Florida criminal history for free

If you are checking your own Florida record for errors, FDLE offers a Personal Review process with no FDLE fee.

This process requires fingerprints because FDLE uses them to verify identity. Only the individual or the individual’s designated attorney can request a Personal Review.

Complete the Personal Review form

Use the current FDLE Personal Review application.

Have fingerprints taken

Fingerprints must be taken by a law-enforcement or criminal-justice agency. That agency may charge its own fingerprinting fee.

Mail the form and fingerprint card

Send the completed packet to FDLE’s Criminal History Record Maintenance Section.

Challenge inaccurate information if necessary

If your record is incomplete or incorrect, use FDLE’s official challenge process.

Seal or expunge a Manatee County criminal record

Florida provides statutory procedures for sealing and expunging qualifying criminal-history records. Eligibility depends on the charge history, disposition and other legal requirements.

For an ordinary court-ordered sealing or expungement, the process generally begins with obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility from FDLE.

Step / fee Current amount Paid to
FDLE Certificate of Eligibility application $75 Florida Department of Law Enforcement
Clerk seal/expunge fee $42 Manatee County Clerk
Copies $1 per page Manatee County Clerk
Certification $2 per instrument Manatee County Clerk
Certificate does not erase the record by itself. FDLE determines whether the applicant is eligible to seek relief; the appropriate court must still enter the order before ordinary court-ordered sealing or expungement occurs.

Official Florida guidance: FDLE Seal and Expunge Process.

Juvenile records are not searched like adult Manatee County criminal cases

Florida law restricts public access to juvenile records. The Manatee County Clerk specifically notes that Florida law prohibits ordinary public electronic access to juvenile records, while law-enforcement and other authorized users can have different access.

The Clerk’s Public Access Department also directs people seeking Family/Juvenile information to the appropriate department and notes that identification may be required.

No public juvenile result does not prove no juvenile record exists. Confidentiality rules intentionally restrict public access.

Federal criminal records are separate from Manatee County records

A federal prosecution will not be found simply by searching the Manatee County Clerk or FDLE public court resources. Federal criminal cases are searched through the federal court system.

Use PACER for federal court dockets and case documents.

Public criminal records vs. regulated background checks

A Clerk case search or Sheriff’s arrest inquiry is a public-record lookup. That does not automatically make the result a legally compliant consumer background report for employment, housing, credit, insurance or other regulated eligibility decisions.

Use-purpose matters. If an employer, licensing agency or other regulated entity gives you a fingerprinting instruction, ORI number or authorized screening process, follow that process rather than substituting a basic public records search.

Manatee County criminal-record search tips

Tip 01

Use the court case for the outcome

If you find a Sheriff booking, follow it into the Clerk case before concluding how the matter ended.

Tip 02

Use a case number when possible

It is more precise than searching a common defendant name.

Tip 03

Lock icon does not always mean “not public”

It can mean View on Request and require a manual confidentiality review first.

Tip 04

County check ≠ statewide check

Sheriff’s local background information is narrower than an FDLE statewide criminal-history search.

Tip 05

Recent arrest? Start with the Sheriff

Booking/custody information may appear before the court docket is fully developed.

Tip 06

Check every count

One criminal case can contain several charges with different outcomes.

Tip 07

Older document? Contact Public Access

Missing online images may still be available after manual review or through the Clerk’s copy center.

Tip 08

Need Florida-wide information? Switch to FDLE

Do not expect a Manatee County case search to reveal cases filed in other Florida counties.

Tip 09

Your own record? Use Personal Review

FDLE’s free fingerprint-based Personal Review is designed for accuracy checking.
