Clark County, Nevada Criminal Records Search: Cases & Public Records

Clark County official-record access guide

Start with the court or agency that actually created the record

Clark County criminal records are divided between several systems rather than one countywide database. Felony and gross-misdemeanor District Court cases are maintained by the Eighth Judicial District Court; Justice Courts handle misdemeanors and the early stages of many felony and gross-misdemeanor cases; municipal courts maintain city matters; LVMPD manages Clark County Detention Center custody data and many Las Vegas-area police records; and Nevada State Police maintains the statewide fingerprint-based criminal-history repository.

Jurisdiction: Clark County, Nevada Primary city: Las Vegas Information checked: September 28, 2026
Quick answer: If you need a felony or gross-misdemeanor case that reached District Court, start with the Eighth Judicial District Court Odyssey/Public Access portal. For Las Vegas Township misdemeanor or preliminary criminal proceedings, use Las Vegas Justice Court. For someone currently in the county jail, use Clark County Detention Center inmate search. For your own statewide Nevada criminal-history record, use the Nevada Criminal History Repository.

Clark County does not keep every criminal record in one place

Clark County’s own public-records page specifically warns that the County is not the custodian of police, detention or court records. Those records must be requested from the agency or court that maintains them.

District Court

Felony and gross-misdemeanor cases

Eighth Judicial District Court maintains felony and gross-misdemeanor criminal actions after they reach District Court.

Justice Courts

Misdemeanors and preliminary proceedings

Justice Courts handle misdemeanors and many initial felony/gross-misdemeanor proceedings, including probable cause, bail and preliminary hearings.

Municipal Courts

City matters

Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and other municipalities maintain separate city-court systems for matters within municipal jurisdiction.

LVMPD / local police

Arrest and police records

Arrest reports, incident reports and local criminal-history information may be maintained by LVMPD or another municipal police agency.

Detention

Current jail custody

Clark County Detention Center is only one detention system in the county. Henderson, North Las Vegas and Las Vegas also have separate detention searches.

Nevada State Police

State criminal history

The Central Repository maintains Nevada fingerprint-supported criminal-history information. Access to another person’s complete repository record is restricted.

Do not confuse an arrest, charge and conviction. A booking can occur before prosecutors decide what charges to file. Justice Court charges can later change when a case reaches District Court. Always read the final court disposition before describing the outcome.

Use Eighth Judicial District Court for felony and gross-misdemeanor case records

The Eighth Judicial District Court serves Clark County and maintains District Court criminal files. Its Clerk of the Court maintains records dating from September 1909 to the present.

Most District Court records from approximately 1990 forward can be researched online. The court is transitioning public access to its newer Odyssey Portal.

Open District Court Portal Official Records Search & Viewing Guide
Current portal change: the Eighth Judicial District Court is moving public users to the newer Odyssey Portal. Older public-access systems may still work temporarily, but new access should be started through the current court portal.

Older Clark County criminal files need a different search path

The Clerk maintains records from 1909 forward, but records from 1909 through 1990 generally require a records request because the older material may need a microfilm or microfiche index search.

1 Try the portal Most cases from 1990 forward can be searched online.
2 Collect identifiers Full party names, filing year and case type help the clerk locate an older case.
3 Submit a search request Use the Records Division if the case cannot be located electronically.
4 Allow extra time Microfilm and large copy requests can take longer than current electronic records.
Before 1909: the District Court states that records predating 1909 must be obtained from Lincoln County.

How to get plain, certified or exemplified Clark County court records

The District Court Clerk accepts requests for plain, certified and exemplified copies. Completed requests can be sent by email or mail.

Exemplification $6 per document Higher level of authentication when specifically required.

Large requests or records that must be retrieved from microfilm or another source can take up to approximately two weeks. Current electronic images may be produced faster depending on staffing and request size.

Sealed criminal cases are different. The District Court states that sealed criminal files require a court order for public access to documents or information.

Las Vegas Justice Court has its own criminal-record search

Las Vegas Township Justice Court is separate from Eighth Judicial District Court. It handles misdemeanor matters and preliminary stages of many felony and gross-misdemeanor cases.

Its public Records Inquiry system includes:

  • criminal case records
  • civil records
  • court calendars
  • traffic and civil-infraction information

Important limitation: sealed cases, protective-order matters and other information exempt from disclosure do not appear in the Las Vegas Justice Court public portal.

Municipal Court records are not Justice Court records

Clark County also contains municipal courts. A city misdemeanor, city-code case or municipal warrant may be maintained in a municipal court rather than Justice Court or District Court.

Common systems include:

  • Las Vegas Municipal Court
  • North Las Vegas Municipal Court
  • Henderson Municipal Court
  • Boulder City Municipal Court where applicable
  • Mesquite Municipal Court where applicable
Local shortcut: look at the case number, citation, arrest paperwork or warrant information to identify the court name first. Choosing the correct court can save several unsuccessful searches.

Police reports and arrest records depend on the arresting agency

Clark County is served by multiple law-enforcement agencies. LVMPD records do not automatically include reports created by Henderson Police, North Las Vegas Police, Boulder City Police or Mesquite Police.

LVMPD’s public-record process covers identifiable existing records such as:

  • incident crime reports
  • arrest reports
  • body-worn camera records
  • voluntary statements
  • certain aggregate records
LVMPD Public Records
Nevada Public Records Act limitation: an agency generally responds to requests for identifiable existing records. It is not required to create a new report or answer general research questions merely because a public-record request was submitted.

What is an LVMPD SCOPE criminal-history record?

LVMPD offers a local criminal-history/background record commonly called a SCOPE record.

The current LVMPD fee is $13.

A SCOPE record can be requested for purposes including:

  • personal review
  • employment
  • housing
  • immigration
  • military enlistment
  • adoption
  • record sealing
SCOPE is not a statewide Nevada criminal-history report. LVMPD says a SCOPE record contains arrests/incidents within LVMPD jurisdiction and agencies for which LVMPD maintains criminal-history entries. It does not automatically include Henderson or North Las Vegas records.

LVMPD says a person may normally obtain their own SCOPE record. Another person needs appropriate authorization, including an original notarized letter from the subject and qualifying identification.

How to request your own statewide Nevada criminal history

The Central Repository for Nevada Records of Criminal History, operated by Nevada State Police Records, Communications and Compliance Division, is the state’s central criminal-history repository.

Repository records are based on Nevada criminal-justice submissions and do not include other states or the FBI.

Repository coverage: Nevada states that its fingerprint-based criminal-history information includes arrest and corresponding disposition information, with statewide repository data generally dating from 1987. Older information may require contact with the arresting agency.

Who can request the full personal record?

An individual may request a copy of their own Nevada criminal-history record, or confirmation that no state record exists.

Complete DPS-006

Fill out the Identification File Request for State of Nevada Records of Criminal History.

Get a ten-print fingerprint card

Use an original FD-258 card completed by an authorized or certified fingerprint technician.

Include the required fee

The current DPS-006 form lists a $27 state-record fee. Nevada has also posted a new fingerprint fee structure effective October 1, 2026, so verify the current fee immediately before submitting your request.

Mail the packet or use the approved electronic route

Nevada provides an electronic request option for qualifying requests made from inside the state. Out-of-state requests must use the manual process.

What to do if your Nevada or LVMPD record is wrong

First identify which agency holds the incorrect information.

LVMPD

Missing disposition

LVMPD accepts Criminal History Update requests when an arrest or criminal citation needs a disposition added. A court disposition must be attached.

LVMPD

Wrong identity / identity theft

LVMPD treats incorrect records belonging to another person or identity theft as a Records Challenge rather than a routine history update.

Nevada Repository

State record challenge

The Nevada State Police repository provides a formal criminal-history challenge process, including DPS-008-X.

Helpful paperwork: keep the case number, arrest date, arresting agency, charge, final disposition and certified court record together. These details help an agency identify the exact entry that needs review.

Use Nevada DOC for state-prison and correctional records

Someone in state prison is searched through the Nevada Department of Corrections, not the Clark County Detention Center.

Nevada DOC Inmate Search

The NDOC search supports:

  • offender ID search
  • first-name search
  • last-name search
  • wildcard searching using %
NDOC itself calls the online result raw data. It warns that the portal should not be treated as the official record of a criminal case. Use the sentencing court for the legal conviction and judgment.

Nevada’s public sex-offender registry is a separate search

Nevada State Police operates the Nevada Public Sex Offender Registry.

The registry allows searches by:

  • registrant name
  • distance from an address
  • Nevada ZIP code
Not every registrant is publicly displayed. Nevada explains that public disclosure depends on statutory tier and victim criteria. In addition, registry information cannot lawfully be used for certain purposes such as employment, housing, credit, insurance and education as restricted by Nevada law.

The registry also warns that a positive identity cannot be guaranteed without fingerprint comparison.

Search Nevada appellate records when a Clark County case was appealed

Appeals from the District Court can proceed into Nevada’s appellate system. The Nevada Supreme Court and Court of Appeals provide a free public case portal.

Nevada Appellate Case Search

Searches can be performed using:

  • appellate case number
  • party or case caption
  • participant last name
  • company or organization name
Closed appeal? Nevada advises users to remove the “Exclude Closed Case” selection when searching for a closed appellate matter.

Nearly all publicly available appellate documents can be viewed online without charge, except documents such as sealed/confidential material and some appendices.

Federal criminal cases in Las Vegas are separate from Clark County courts

Federal prosecutions are filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. They do not appear as Clark County District Court criminal cases.

Search federal cases through PACER.

Clark County record sealing requires more than deleting an online case

Nevada uses a record-sealing process rather than treating eligible records as automatically erased from every database.

Clark County’s District Attorney provides a local stipulation process for qualifying District Court and Justice Court records.

Current Clark County requirement: the District Attorney’s instructions require a current, verified criminal-history report from the Nevada Criminal History Central Repository with the petition-and-order materials. A local LVMPD SCOPE may still be useful for preparing the petition, but the statewide CHR is required under the DA’s current instructions.

Justice Court vs Municipal Court sealing

The Clark County District Attorney explains that it cannot stipulate to sealing charges handled under municipal-court jurisdiction. Municipal matters must follow the process associated with the appropriate municipal court and city attorney.

District Court can be used in certain circumstances to address multiple District and Justice Court matters within Clark County.

Clark County Record-Sealing Instructions
Eligibility depends on the case. Waiting periods, active warrants or cases, the offense involved and the final disposition can affect whether a record is eligible for sealing. Court staff and the District Attorney do not provide private legal advice.

How the Clark County criminal-case path usually works

1 Arrest or citation A law-enforcement agency creates arrest or incident information.
2 Justice Court Many cases begin with bail, arraignment or preliminary proceedings in Justice Court.
3 District Court Qualifying felony/gross-misdemeanor matters can be bound over and receive a District Court case number.
4 Appeal / corrections Later records may exist with Nevada appellate courts or NDOC depending on the outcome.

That is why searching only one website can miss part of a Clark County criminal matter.

Clark County search tips that prevent common dead ends

Tip 01

Identify the court first

District Court, Justice Court and Municipal Court are separate record systems even when courtrooms share the Regional Justice Center.

Tip 02

Save both case numbers

A felony can have an early Justice Court number and a later District Court number after bindover.

Tip 03

Use full names and filing year

Those details help Clerk staff locate older records when a case number is unknown.

Tip 04

Pre-1990? Stop relying on online search

Submit a Clerk search request because historical indexes may require microfilm research.

Tip 05

Current inmate?

Use the detention-facility search first, then move to the correct court for the filed charges.

Tip 06

SCOPE is local

An LVMPD SCOPE does not automatically include Henderson or North Las Vegas police history.

Tip 07

State history is fingerprint-based

For your own statewide Nevada record, use the Repository rather than a name-only commercial search.

Tip 08

Warrant searches may require several courts

If the issuing jurisdiction is unknown, check the relevant Justice and Municipal Court systems.

Tip 09

Read the last disposition

Initial booking charges can differ from charges ultimately filed, amended, dismissed or adjudicated.

Common questions about Clark County criminal and public records

1. Can I search Clark County criminal cases online?

Yes. Eighth Judicial District Court provides online access to many District Court records, particularly records from about 1990 forward. Las Vegas Justice Court and other township courts also maintain separate public-access systems.

2. Which court handles felony cases in Clark County?

Felony and gross-misdemeanor cases can begin in Justice Court for preliminary proceedings. Cases that are bound over are then handled by the Eighth Judicial District Court.

3. Where can I find Clark County criminal records before 1990?

Eighth Judicial District Court says older records from 1909 through 1990 may require an in-person or mail records-search request because microfilm or microfiche indexes may be needed.

4. How much does a District Court copy cost?

The current Clerk guidance lists photocopies at $0.50 per page, certification of a Clerk-prepared copy at an additional $3 per document, and exemplification at an additional $6 per document.

5. How do I find someone in the Clark County Detention Center?

Use LVMPD’s official inmate-search page and choose Clark County Detention Center. The facility can also be contacted at 702-671-3900.

6. Can I get another person’s LVMPD SCOPE background check?

LVMPD normally releases a person’s SCOPE history to that person. Obtaining another person’s background requires the authorization and identification documents specified by LVMPD, including an appropriate notarized authorization.

7. Is an LVMPD SCOPE the same as a statewide Nevada criminal history?

No. SCOPE reflects qualifying LVMPD/local records maintained in that system. The Nevada State Police Central Repository is the statewide criminal-history repository.

8. Can I search another person’s complete Nevada State Police criminal history?

Complete repository access is restricted. Nevada’s ordinary personal-record procedure allows the subject to request their own fingerprint-based Nevada criminal-history record or notice that no record exists.

9. Where should I search for a Clark County arrest warrant?

Search or contact the court that may have issued the warrant. Clark County has District, Justice and Municipal Courts, so more than one system may need to be checked when the issuing court is unknown.

10. Can a sealed Clark County criminal case disappear from public search?

Yes. Nevada record-sealing orders can restrict the record from general public access. Eighth Judicial District Court states that sealed criminal files require a court order for access to documents or case information.

Official sources for verifying Clark County criminal-record information

Editorial note: Criminal-Record.org is an independent informational resource and is not affiliated with Clark County, the Eighth Judicial District Court, Las Vegas Justice Court, LVMPD, Nevada State Police, Nevada Department of Corrections or another government agency. Court, arrest, booking and criminal-history records can differ because they are maintained by separate agencies. An arrest or filed charge should not be presented as proof of guilt. For important decisions, verify identity and final disposition with the government agency or court that maintains the original record.
