Looking for the TV series rather than a criminal-record search?
The phrase “criminal record series” most commonly refers to Criminal Record, the British crime thriller starring Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo. It is a fictional police drama set in London and should not be confused with a public criminal-history database, court case search or background-check service.
What is the Criminal Record series about?
Criminal Record is a character-driven British crime thriller created by Paul Rutman. The story follows two London police detectives whose methods, histories and interpretations of past cases bring them into conflict.
Cush Jumbo plays Detective Sergeant June Lenker, while Peter Capaldi plays Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty. Much of the drama revolves around police decision-making, evidence, institutional pressure and the consequences of previous investigations.
Main cast and characters
Daniel Hegarty
A senior London police detective whose investigative history plays a central role in the series.
June Lenker
A detective sergeant whose investigation challenges previous assumptions and brings her into conflict with Hegarty.
Paul Rutman
Writer and executive producer behind the crime drama.
Season 2 also includes Dustin Demri-Burns, Luca Pasqualino, Luther Ford, Lyndsey Marshal and Peter Sullivan, alongside returning members of the ensemble.
Season 1 establishes the conflict between June and Hegarty
The first season centers on questions surrounding an older murder investigation. June begins looking closely at whether a previous conviction was reliable, putting her on a collision course with Hegarty, who was connected with the original investigation.
Rather than functioning as a conventional “case of the week” police procedural, the season builds around one central investigation and gradually reveals information about the officers, the evidence and the institutional pressures surrounding the case.
Season 2 premiered on April 22, 2026
Apple released the second season globally on April 22, 2026. The season contains eight episodes and concluded on June 10, 2026.
Season 2 again places June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty at the center of the story. This time, the investigation begins after a young man is stabbed at a political rally. The case forces the two detectives into an uneasy working relationship.
As the investigation develops, the story expands beyond the killing into an undercover operation involving a planned extremist bombing plot in London.
