Disclaimer & Terms of Use

Effective and last reviewed: September 16, 2026

These terms and disclaimers apply to use of criminal-record.org/. By accessing the website, you agree to use it lawfully and understand the limitations described below.

Independent website; no government affiliation

criminal-record.org/ is a privately operated informational website. It is not a federal, state, county, city, court, police, sheriff, corrections, prosecution, clerk, or other government website. References to government entities do not imply endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, or official status.

Educational navigation—not an official record service

We explain how users can locate official government sources and understand public procedures. We do not issue certified records, conduct fingerprint-based checks, maintain official court files, verify identity on behalf of an agency, or control access to government systems.

No legal advice

Content is provided for general informational purposes. It is not legal advice, does not create an attorney-client relationship, and should not be used as a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney. Laws and procedures concerning criminal records, sealing, expungement, disclosure, public access, background screening, warrants, juvenile matters, and permissible use vary by jurisdiction and can change.

No FCRA consumer report

criminal-record.org/ is not a consumer reporting agency and does not provide consumer reports for employment, tenant screening, credit, insurance, or other regulated eligibility decisions. Review our FCRA & Responsible Use Notice before using criminal-record information for any consequential purpose.

Accuracy and timeliness

We use an official-source-first editorial process and manually review important links and procedures, but we cannot guarantee that every government page, fee, phone number, office hour, portal, form, policy, or law will remain unchanged after our review date. Government systems can change without notice.

If our content conflicts with a current instruction from the government entity responsible for the record, follow the official source and tell us about the discrepancy.

No guarantee of completeness

An online public-record search may be incomplete. Some records are excluded by law, delayed in data transmission, maintained in another jurisdiction, available only at a courthouse, restricted to authorized users, sealed, expunged, or otherwise unavailable online. An absence of a search result is not proof that no record exists.

No guarantee of identity

We do not certify that a record belongs to a specific individual. Similar names, aliases, incomplete identifiers, data-entry mistakes, and jurisdictional differences can produce false matches. Users are responsible for verifying identity through appropriate and lawful means.

Acceptable use

You may use criminal-record.org/ for lawful personal research, education, journalism, public-interest research, navigation to official government resources, and other lawful purposes consistent with these terms.

Prohibited use

You may not use the website or information reached through it to:

  • stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, blackmail, extort, or dox another person;
  • commit identity theft, fraud, impersonation, or another unlawful act;
  • unlawfully discriminate against a person;
  • bypass court, government, or website access controls;
  • interfere with website security, scrape in a manner that disrupts service, introduce malicious code, or attempt unauthorized access;
  • misrepresent criminal-record.org/ as an official government service;
  • use our pages as a substitute for a consumer report where the FCRA or another law applies; or
  • republish substantial portions of our original editorial content in a way that infringes applicable rights.

External government websites

Government links are provided because they are useful to readers. We do not control external uptime, security, portal design, account requirements, data accuracy, terms of use, accessibility, or privacy practices. An external government site can change or remove a feature without notifying us.

Commercial and third-party websites

Commercial destinations are independent from criminal-record.org/. Their products, databases, coverage, accuracy, pricing, billing practices, terms, privacy policies, FCRA status, and customer support are their responsibility. Review their terms before using them.

Advertising and affiliate relationships

The site may earn revenue from advertising or affiliate relationships. Commercial compensation does not convert a third-party service into an official source and should not alter our description of the responsible court or government agency. Material relationships are addressed in our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.

Intellectual property

Our original editorial writing, explanatory structure, graphics, and compilations may be protected by copyright and other applicable law. Government materials and third-party works remain subject to their own legal status, ownership, and licensing terms.

Linking to criminal-record.org/

You may link to our public pages in a lawful and non-misleading manner. A link must not falsely imply that we endorse, sponsor, certify, or are affiliated with another organization.

Website availability

We may revise, reorganize, suspend, limit, or discontinue pages or features. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or that a particular URL will exist indefinitely.

Security

You must not attempt to defeat security controls, test vulnerabilities without authorization, overload infrastructure, inject malicious code, access nonpublic systems, or misuse forms or contact channels.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the website and its operators are not liable for losses arising from reliance on inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, unavailable, or misidentified information; use of an external website; a government portal outage; misuse of information by a user; or a decision made without appropriate official verification or professional advice.

No warranties

The site is provided on an “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties that are not expressly stated, including warranties of uninterrupted availability, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement.

Indemnity

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you are responsible for your unlawful or prohibited use of the website and for claims arising from your violation of these terms or the rights of another person.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the website, our business practices, or applicable requirements change. The effective date at the top reflects the latest review. Continued use after an update constitutes use under the revised terms to the extent permitted by law.

Severability

If a provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions should continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
